Ercoupe engine

The Ercoupe was first designed with a single tail, but it caused the plane to veer left under certain conditions and was difficult to correct. Weick later switched to a twin design and slanted the planes engine slightly to the right to solve the problem.
The prototype 310 featured an ERCO-made inverted four-cylinder engine, the ERCO I-L 116, which was quickly dropped due to its high manufacturing cost compared to the new Continental A-65 horizontal. Lacking rudder pedals, the Ercoupe was flown using only the control wheel.
The refined W-1A (originally known as the ERCO 310), which included a fully cowled engine, made its first flight in October 1937 and was soon renamed the “Ercoupe.” The twin-tail Ercoupe became an instant sensation because of its easy-to-fly design and unique design features, including a bubble canopy for great visibility.
Ercoupes with the 85 hp engine get better take-off and climb performance, and will cruise a bit faster, and will use a little bit more fuel than 75 hp planes. But there's not a lot of difference. Cruising speeds with the 85 hp engine range from 104-112 mph.
An Ercoupe climbs poorly below about 70 mph. Most Ercoupe pilots have had experience watching As the engine makes those pleasant cooling-off noises, realize that you have come to understand the...

Nov 20, 2017 · In the late 1930s, the Ercoupe was designed as a stall-proof, spin-proof airplane that had no rudder pedals. An interconnection between the ailerons and limited-travel rudders made flying the Ercoupe as easy as steering a car. Prevention of stalls was accomplished by blocking elevator travel before stall angle was achieved.

The ERC (Engineering and Research Corporation) Ercoupe can trace its roots to pre-war days designed to be the safest aircraft available that current technology would allow. The main sales were however after the war when the Ercoupe was promoted as spin proof and the worlds safest plane that needed no footwork.

The Ercoupe did not need rudder pedals, did not stall in the real sense, it was not an idiot proof airplane.. But your argument really falls apart when you begin quoting accident statistics on a DIFFERENT airplane, an airplane that weighs 3 times as much, has retractable landing gear, two engines, seats six, and adjustable props.
The initial idea for an aircraft electronic ignition system was generated by an experimenter named Jeff Rose. Electronic ignition systems had conceptually been considered for aircraft for many years, but Jeff decided to do more than simply think of how to put it all together.
The Ercoupe is a two place airplane ideally suited for transportation or training. Of the $2,000 class, the Ercoupe looks more like a snappy military pursuit job than a sportplane. Unusual points of interest in the ship is the tricycle landing gear, twin rudders and practically all metal construction.
This particular plane design was posted for consideration on the LEGO Ideas website, where the owner of “Tessie” found it. Tessie is an air racing Ercoupe. The CAD version of the Ercoupe needed a color change so it could then be used to generate a parts list to source parts from Bricklink shops.
